WASHINGTON D.C. — Thomas Pyle, president of the Institute for Energy Research, released the following statement on today’s re-filing of a supplemental Keystone XL pipeline permit application by TransCanada:

“President Obama has single-handedly stopped the creation of thousands of American jobs and increased our reliance on overseas oil imports by denying the Keystone XL pipeline permit. Today, TransCanada will try again by filing a supplemental application to get approval for this much-needed oil pipeline. Regrettably, anti-conventional energy extremists have the president’s backing in their war on fossil fuels, to the harm America’s economic future. Already, the president’s policy on Keystone XL has made Americans send more than $11 billion overseas to purchase oil from unstable overseas regimes rather than our closest trade partner, Canada.

“A recent survey commissioned by the American Energy Alliance reveals that 79 percent of the Americans support construction of the Keystone XL pipeline. It’s time for action from the White House to approve the Keystone XL permit in the national interest.”
