CommentsI remember a time when psychologists maintained offices in obscure little places where clients could go around to the rear entrance to avoid the embarrassment of being seen visiting a "shrink". Psychiatrists operated mostly out of institutions or had offices nearby. There was also a time when parents kept children's mental disorders or learning disabilities a private matter and sought private remedies.Somewhere along the line the once stigmatized issue of mental disorders, long-term or situational, became widely accepted and, in some circles, actually chic. You can find a psychologist/psychiatrist clinic in almost every town, you know someone who is or are yourself taking some kind of "psych med". Children stand in line at school for their "meds" (usually Adderol or Ritalin), and a growing number of adults are filing for SSDI under the banner of "psychological impairment" (remember the adult baby syndrome guy?). The APA, along with big Pharma, has gained far more control over our society than one might think. What was once a very personal problem, dealt with in private, has now become a public booming industry feeding off the narcissism and "me, me, me" attitude that has sprung up over the past 30 years. The Doctor's article sheds light on the "mental health" industries push to engage entire societies in the "how does that make you feel" ruse that plays on the individual's sense of guilt while at the same time empowering the "counselor's" hold over the "group think" they are seeking to expand. The results; a few intellectuals garner more power over society, a few zealots advance a political agenda, and a few money handlers get extremely wealthy from selling carbon credits. But hey, at least we'll feel good about ourselves. Posted by CDGuy on 06/18 at 11:40 AM | # Great job, Mr. Swemson! I love the covers! Thank you, Michael, for your defense. Excellent and logical points, W Pugh! Joanne, well said and brief. I am very impressed and intrigued by all readers' commentaries. I could do without personal attacks from liberals who do not have good arguments, just tired talking points, but they are part of civil discourse. I am truly impressed with your personal research and the presentation of the Time Magazine issue covers...That is a terrific, very graphic and powerful illustration of how the environmental communities are unable to get their stories straight, honest or consistent. The message is very clear by these groups and it appears to be : No matter what we say...or when we say it...our word is always the final, one true word. How do you spell "credibility gap" ? Don'tcha just LOVE, also, how the green industries and their acolytes have dropped the phrase "Global Warming" and have adopted instead the new mantra of 'climate change' ???? As you pointed out, that's what weather DOES...it changes !! At least now, the weather-fear-mongers MAY have a slim opportunity to be right on a few occasions... instead of being so outrageously and so consistently wrong ! Thanks for your valuable feedback !! However, this seems more like this profession is trying to create a business out of their intentional infliction of AGW mental anguish. But isn't that exactly what the AGW enthusiasts have already done? Posted by aposematic on 06/17 at 01:11 PM | # Dr. Paugh, I don’t think that I shall try to understand the left’s “thinking” since they live in a country called Euphoria where thinking is outlawed and that is replaced with “How do you feel about that” and their programmed responses such as “it's for the children” are all they know. Posted by JohnMinn on 06/17 at 10:43 AM | # With all the facts Disputing the manufactured global warming hype, I find it incredible that any thinking person could still believe in that fallacy. Only those who stand to profit (Chicago climate exchange), other greedy unethical scams and the truly mindless still cling to the joke that was global warming. Posted by Justin on 06/17 at 05:06 AM | # Excellent article. I think they are trying to promote their business to the fearful and ignorant. IF 350ppm CO2 is the safe limit, then it should be easy to observe its effect on climate. Just go back pre-1987 when it was at or below that number. Some of the worst weather in history occurred pre-1950. Nobody can deny the destruction of the '30's. At one time 80% of the U.S. was in drought. No rational person, who does the slightest research, could be duped into this ruse. Only those of socialists mindsets accept this because the end game is the redistribution of wealth, as stated by Germany's Edenhoffer. CO2 became the enemy because it's a by-product of wealth production and capitalism. Note CO2 emissions declines during recessions. The Green movement is contributing to world economic collapse. Billions thrown away into useless, outdated endeavors. There's always those that imagine themselves saving the world. They are usually paranoid, fearful people looking for some meaning to their lives. What could make one more morally superior than "saving the planet?" They are the secular counterpart to doomsday preachers. Any rational person immediately realizes they are frauds. You would be hard-pressed to find more than a handful of scientists, who would go on record stating global warming will be catastrophic. It's already been disproven, but the ones who lives are dependent on global warming continue to preach on and continue to be wrong in every prediction. The "Shrinks" badly need a shrink. The doomsday preaching is making people go mental, not the climate. Posted by W Pugh on 06/17 at 12:02 AM | # Well said, Joanne. I suspect people like Mr. Cunningham, who have neither the desire nor the ability to study the actual science behind this issue and decide for themselves if there's any truth to it, might be better served by looking at what the global warming alarmists were saying about climate change just 35 short years ago: ![]() They were wrong then and they're wrong now. Climate changes. That's what it does. Any effect that man has had on the process is only local (urban heat island effect) and too small to be statistically significant on a planet wide basis. This nonsense has been going on since the first primitive shaman told his flock that if they didn't do as he said, that their god would visit them with more terrible storms, floods, tsunamis, earthquakes, etc..etc... Prior to this current panic, the media pushed these stories for the simple reason that catastrophes sold newspapers. Today it's being promoted in the quest for money and political power. The so called scientists who generate all the reports that have everyone scared, aren't practicing science, they're practicing GRANTSMANSHIP... The USA alone has spent over $50 billion on grants to these lowlifes. It's the biggest scientific hoax of all times. Environmental activism for the sake of controlling the globe’s productive population is a mental disease in itself The global warming alarmists have become so desperate in light of ever-increasing numbers of skeptics that they are trying to tie everything to global warming. Take for instance the Congressional Report Service paper prepared specifically to inform members and committees of Congress (“SEC Climate Change Disclosure Guidance: An Overview and Congressional Concerns,” Gary Shorter, May 24, 2012) More...Post a Comment on: Global Warming Psychological BabbleCommenting is not available in this channel entry.
