Appalled and appalling Green Pagans

Re: Green pagans find way to White House funding and Dancing Druids

I am appalled at the closed minded article that was published in your paper. To state that Pagans should not be allowed to draw upon the public funds is appalling. So the only people in trouble to be helped are Christians? As it stands in the states at the moment, you must go through bible study, or at least prayer meetings in order to recieve any help from these faith based initiative groups. I know this from experience. My husband was Jewish when he died a few years back. He died young and suddenly, without any type of insurance to help my daughter and I through this. Until his death certificate was issued, a month later, our bank accounts and even my car insurance was held in limbo leaving me with an young daughter to rely on the system to help us through. With no money, and the month long wait, it became evident that I would have no choice but to rely on these agencies to get through. The Jewish synagogue couldn’t help, as they have no existing programs available, and since I had not gone through conversion ( I was reared Catholic), they couldn’t help me. I had no choice but to go to the Salvation Army to thier food bank. As I stood in line I watched as those who took a bible and agreed to a “prayer circle” got the help they needed. Those who refused were turned away and told they were out of food baskets for the day, return tomarrow. I had to go through no less than 3 prayer vigils and 2 bible courses before I could put food on our table. It did not leave me feeling good about the help. It appalled me that in a country that states there is freedom of religion, that it really means there is freedom of religion as long as you don’t have any financial problems, you don’t need public assistance, and you don’t try to take a job in those businessess that impose their church on the employee’s. (I was fired from a job because I refused to go to the local Johavah Witness meetings) So before you open your mouth and insert the proverbial foot… try talking to some of those people who’s families are in desperate need of help. In the United States it is the freedom of religion as long as you don’t need anything or any help.. otherwise it is convert or do without…
