A letter from Inky Mark
Dear Editor:
Re: Comments made by Quebec radio show host
During an interview, Pierre Mailloux, a certified psychiatrist, said that American studies show that the average intelligence of African Americans is inferior. When pressed to name the studies he referenced, Mailloux was unable to do so.
Dr. Mailloux’s comments are ridiculous and injurious. One has to question his rationale.
No one race has a monopoly on intelligence. Dr. Mailloux’s comments are offensive to Canadians. Our society does not tolerate opinion that demeans any segment of our population.
Mailloux previously suggested on air that pedophiles undergo voluntary castration, and he has referred to Sikhs as a gang of bozos. The College of Physicians reprimanded him in 2002. Then, this past June the CRTC ruled Mailloux contravened the Broadcasting Act by making abusive, discriminatory, and racist comments.
I have written to both the CRTC and Quebec Human Rights Commission to ask for an investigation into Dr. Mailloux’s racist comments.
His racial attack goes against Canadian values. We are a multi-cultural society. Canada has come too far to take a backward step with Dr. Mailloux.
Sincerely,
Inky Mark, M.P.
