Gomery has shown us the corrupt Liberals
Dear Editor:
Re: Harper does it to Ontario…Again
Arthur Weinreb, in the above mentioned column on Nov. 11/05, surmised that in spite of the fact that Gomery has shown the Liberals to be corrupt, to have mismanaged if not stolen taxpayers’ money, to have no ethics and, as well, they know that Liberals have also been ineffective in governing this nation in the best interests of its people. However, in spite of all that, it is obviously true, according to recent polls, that the Liberal propaganda machine has influenced Ontarians enough to turn against the Conservatives just because the Citizenship and Immigration Committee chose not to give Joe Volpe (Pizza Joe), Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, the large amount of money he asked for because he was not willing to provide a breakdown of how this money would be spent. As taxpayers, do they really think it wise to hand Ministers any amount of money on nothing more than a request for it? Is that, in all honestly, a valid reason to side with the Liberals?
This and other committees are responsible to the Canadian people to ensure that their hard-earned tax dollars are spent by the government both wisely and well. Giving money to a Minister unwilling to provide any indication of what this money would be used for, even if every penny goes to worthwhile projects, is not prudent. There must be accountability and transparency in government and acts like this are why this Liberal government is in so much trouble. It speaks well of this committee that they would refuse.
The Liberal propaganda machine has spun this as an act by Conservatives to deny immigrants money but immigrants are taxpayers too and they want their tax dollars used wisely, as do we all. The Conservatives are not anti-immigrant and those in the immigrant community who are Conservatives are growing in numbers because they have a culture that is conservative in nature and they find it difficult to accept certain things that the Liberal party stands for.
Ontarians know that they will get their $27.5 million, all it will take is for Joe Volpe to provide details about how the money he wants from the taxpayers will be spent. If Ontarians put pressure on Volpe to do his paperwork properly, they will get their money sooner rather than later. It makes absolutely no sense blaming Conservatives for what is essentially an act of arrogance on the part of Joe Volpe, thinking he can ask for our money without accounting to our representatives for how he intends to use it. Ontarians pay taxes and will agree that they want to have their tax dollars accounted for and then spent wisely. Because of this they should place the blame where it belongs, with Joe Volpe, not the Conservative Party.
