Catholics and Cuba
Dear Editor:
Re: Pope Benedict XVI pays homage to Castro
Thank you for all your great reporting. In connection of the Church’s stance in international politics, such as in Cuba, there is another example I have often thought of. This is the anti-war view by the Vatican with regard to Iraq. For the Church to be anything, but against war is something we are all aware of. They did it with an extra degree of urgency before the start of the Iraq war, and I believe it was to try to save the Chaldean Catholics from added harm. Having such a small minority at the mercy of so many Muslims is something where they felt they needed to tread softly.
In Cuba maybe the Church is trying to charm Castro and the other bandits to have them be more sympathetic toward Catholics. But don’t we all know that this only gives these rulers license to continue their criminal domination.
