Quebec separation
“Boisclair’s appeal tests federalists.” (Nov. 17):
Here we go again. The same old Parti Quebecois agenda in a brand new wrapper. While every poll shows that the majority of Quebecers are not Separatists, they continue to vote PQ in order to squeeze extra benefits for Quebec from a befuddled federal government. If we really want to spike the PQ guns, we have no choice other than admit that Quebec is indeed a different province from all the others, and give it most of what it demands.
With a language, legal-system, history and culture of its own, Quebec is a semi-autonomous province anyway.
And if we don’t agree to giving it a special status in the Canadian Confederation, then it’s only a matter of time before a charismatic Separatist leader, and let’s hope it isn’t Andre Boisclair, succeeds in severing the nation.
