Prison reform
Dear Editor:
Re: Cruel and unusual punishment
In response to Mr. Bedford’s article on the horrid conditions in Canadian prisons, America has overlooked prison violence and so the rape of men in for non-violent crimes, such as non-payment of child support are subjected to this murder of a man’s soul.
With all the phony political talk of “prison reform” certainly prison officials could quite effectively and quickly put an end to this grave form of evil.
A man who spent time in an English prison said that rape does not happen in their jails. I do not know if that is true, but I know we could put an end to it if we chose to.
I became conscious of the horrid state of American prisons when a neighbor who was serving time for drunk driving, committed suicide rather than go back to a Texas jail.
