NDP Liberal coalition or union
Dear Editor:
Re: We’ve united the right — now let’s unite the left
Enjoyed your speculation on a merger of the NDP/Liberals. The only problem is whose money we spend to acheive all the socially liberating programs on the NDP agenda. Somehow there needs to be some accountability.
I personally come from a province where the NDP social adgenda almost left us bankrupt–we moved from a “have” province to a “have-not” province in less than eight years. There is a good reason why they (the NDP) do not have federal support in the electorate. There are enough Canadians left who responsibly hold jobs, try to raise children, and have dreams of enjoying some benefit of their labour. Perhaps they are not prepared to relinquish (as I am) 55% of their income to those who who need bailing out.
We are (second to the U.S.) the second most generous nation in the world to those who are in need. Somehow the United Socialist Republic of Canada does not hold much of a cheery ring– it might be wise to remember if you kill the engine (the entrepreneurs and self-employed with red-tape and taxation), you will also kill the caboose (those they support with their tax dollars).
