OF ENEMIES AND” CHANGING-FORMS”

Dear Editor:

Recently I was reading an article on animal species, such as the dodo and the dinosaurs, that have become extinct. Some of these disappearances are easy to explain, the passenger-pigeon, for instance, was hunted to extinction, while others, like the late dinosaurs, remain a mystery. According to scientists, of course, nothing really disappears, things only change their chemical forms. Which brings me to the disappearance of once mighty human organizations. The Communists, Nazis, Fascists, Ku-Klux-Klan and myriad other political and religious movements that once attracted millions of true believers, now appear to be almost extinct. I say almost extinct because many of these organizations are still around as small hard-core units dreaming of the day when they will rise, phoenix-like, from their ashes to blaze once more in infamy.

There is one organization of racists and religious bigots that has virtually vanished from the scene since the infamous destruction of New York’s World Trade Center in 2001, now known simply as 9/11. The organization in question is called the Nation of Islam and its leader is one Louis Farrakhan. Farrakhan and his cohorts have every reason to keep a low profile considering the current political climate in the U.S., where their organization is located. Farrakhan’s Islamic extremists make no secret of their hatred of white Christians, in fact Farrakhan’s diatribes against Whites, particularly Americans, and his bizarre interpretation of the bible are posted on the internet for the world to see. There wasn’t much to be concerned about when The Nation of Islam was out in the open, and Farrakhan and his fellow Afro-American extremists were mouthing their outlandish Anti-Semitism, anti-White and anti-Christian venom all over the media.

But everything is changed since the horrendous 9/11 attack. While we know that not all Muslims are terrorists or suicide-bombers, we must always be on the lookout for the ones who are. And, seeing that The Nation of Islam’s aims are so closely allied to those of al Qaeda and the Taliban, it would be in the interests of all democratic countries to find out just where they are and what they are up to these days. Unlike the dodo and the dinosaurs, The Nation of Islam and its fanatical leader have not disappeared, they have merely changed their form. We should waste no time in finding out what it is.
