Responsible stewardship?
Dear Editor:
With all the fuss over low-stumpage fees in the softwood dispute and the reports of the pitiful 1%-net royalty that Alberta is currently receiving from the Tar Sands developers, it gave me reason to wonder what the “royalty” or “dividend” that Canada/ Ontario/ Nfld be receiving from any foreign firm that is approved to buy the Canadian firms that control so much of THIS non-renewable Crown asset?
In anticipation of a confirmation of my suspicion that the answer is “zero” … I cry, “Is this responsible Stewardship?”
If all the good jobs and real profits will flow out of the country, why are the Stewards of the Canadian Crown’s assets content to continue the ’sweetheart deal’ we provided initially?
