Re: How Do You Say “English Only!� in Spanish?

thank you for your article on English only. i too voted for bill Clinton in 1992 as a 33 year old that felt the country needed an energetic change. i have since grown up and am now a conservative voter.

what happened to the country that i grew up in? what happened to my country where it was the rarity to hear anyone in public speak another language other than English?

immigrants wanted to assimilate, to learn to speak English, to become an American and be proud of it. this is not the case , in fact it is not even encouraged any longer. it is more acceptable to be diverse, to show your difference, not
to become one in America.

i am so disgusted and disappointed in what this country has become, it is not the country i grew up in. i watched the movie pleasant ville recently, although the 50’s had their problems, i wish it were 1958 again in America. we were Americans and we were proud of it and we all spoke English.
