Truth about global warming

Dear Editor,
Re: Global Warming: The Cold, Hard Facts?

In the early 1970s my family and I visited Scotland and spent a great deal of time in and around Gatehouse of Fleet. One of our stops was Cardoness Castle which, as you may know, overlooks Fleet Bay. The castle looks directly down on a small inlet that is now dry as a bone and a mile or two from the sea (as I remember.) About one quarter of the way up the side of the cliff one can see the remains of rock walls that were slips where the fleet docked in the 16th century. No such luck now, however, as there is no water within miles.

I tell this vignette to people who have been traumatized about global warming by these modern day Chicken Littles. One can see with ones’ own eyes that the world was much warmer then as the sea was much higher. So, where was the carbon dioxide? What factories and power plants were causing this phenomenon? The answer, of course, is none. It was as it is today simply the sun and other climatological factors “doing their thing.”

Keep up the good work

Robert Hughes
