Privileged Paper Pushers
Dear Editor,
According to the latest government figures, the Indian and Northern Affairs Department currently spends $10 billion a year in its efforts to improve the living standards of our native population. This works out at approxamately $80,000 per person. Considering the widespread poverty on the Indian reserves, It’s reasonable to assume that most of this money is used to provide a lot of non-Indians with well paid bureaucratic jobs. Why not abolish the Indian and Northern affairs Department, and let the U.I. Department
send a monthly cheque for $4,000 (taxable) to each status Indian? this would greatly reduce the poverty level on the reserves, save the taxpayer Billions of dollars and force all those bureaucratic paper-pushers to find something useful to do for a change.
