Rising gas prices
Dear Editor,
Re: The Pressure at the pumps: This time it’s the Greed not the Greens
Your article ”pressure at the pumps” felt like a real breath of fresh air . the fumes of disinformation from the unholy nexus between political and big-money pollutants continue to spew and choke our view and understanding of ”writing-on-the-wall” issues that face common citizens today . as a founder member of the g-8, it is inconceivable that the modern miracle of the communication revolution has only helped to morph today’s Canadian bloe-joe into a meaningless object of ignorance and despair (and mind control!) completely disjointed from the ever-so obvious machinations and programs of the politician-oil dupoly.
But by far the most shameful is the plight of today’s press and one of the most fundamental of all rights- freedom of knowledge and expression. no more than pegging a value for the air we breathe, so also does the right for free expression as a society- the right to hear and be heard- remain so fundamental to any issue. the absolute trash that our daily newspapers dole out - thanks to the absolute control of the media is really the poison in the chalice that has paralyzed true democracy, freedom of expression and most importantly the right to know. i think that the newspapers in a china, iraq or n.korea are a lot more palatable than the millions of Russian trees felled from the newsprint big-money advert waste of the canwest biz empire. if they want to make a quick buck, start up a sausage factory and a hot dog stand for heaven’s sake.
put simply, if i had not ‘googled’ your name from a Quebec’s press council diatribe on ‘breaches’ by the press, it would have been virtually impossible to dream up a read of your and similar such coverages on freely expressed commentaries on todays’ real hot-button issues. instead we get- at the best- very veiled messages either in cartoon form or tucked away on page G55 of a Saturday edition.
Once again, well done- but what a waste if the asphyxiation of opinions like yours by the likes of the Aspers, Murdochs, Rothsteins, Bertelsmanns, Eisners and their ilk who, like the Texan connection do what it takes to keep the doggy-and-the-bone game going !
