Ditch the Dome
I remember when Toronto’s new City Hall was ridiculed as two mismatched cement slabs. Now the old slabs are as dear to Torontonians as the old City Hall. I think that, over time, the controversial crystal addition to the ROM will also become a treasured landmark. There are, of course, always exceptions to the rule that unpopular structures are embraced over time, and in Toronto’s case the exception is the Dome. The Dome isn’t big enough for Olympic events, if we ever get them, that is. Also, the seats are not wide enough for Canadian butts. while seats can be replaced, nothing can be done with the outside of the Dome which looks like a monstrous warehouse left over from the Industrial Revolution. To paraphrase Ronald Reagan’s call to Mikhail Gorbachev at the Berlin Wall: “Mr. Rogers, tear down this Dome!”
