Pro-life movement far from dead
Dear Editor:
The mainstream media’s propensity to “major on minors” and ignore significant events which run contrary to their particular bias continues to be a problem in this country.
Case in point. The 10th annual National March for Life held in Ottawa in May of this year drew nearly 7000 pro-lifers, 75-80% of whom were high school and university students. The event is growing steadily each year and is annually attended by pro-lifers and a significant number of politicians from various political stripes.
It is one of the biggest events of it’s kind on Parliament Hill each year yet was predictably scarcely covered by
the media who mostly chose to ignore it completely, “lowball the numbers” or distort the facts.
Why is it the escapades of a Paris Hilton get front page headlines easy enough but events such as this end up as a paragraph on page thirty of most newspapers?
It may come as a suprise to many Canadians that the batteries of the pro-life movement are being recharged and with the number of young people involved growing they are sending a clear signal to politicians the movement will be a force to be reckoned with in the years ahead. I find it disturbing and totally illogical that a country that prides itself so much in being a defender and champion of human rights can turn a blind eye to the issue of justice for the unborn. Selective justice is not justice.
