History/Political-Science Specialist

Dear Editor:
Re: Jeremy Andrews

In a letter to the Sun, Jeremy Andrews- who signs himself a
“History/Political-Science Specialist “- gives us a lecture on World War
II. His musings, however sound more like those of a bar room pinhead like like
Cliff Clavin on the old Cheers sit-com.
As for his belittling Canada’s contribution to the Allied
victory, Andrews should read the official account of the Canadian Army’s
role in the invasion of Italy and its vital contribution to the success of
the D-Day invasion. Also, a third of the pilots in the Battle of Britain
were Canadians, and the Canadian Navy suffered heavy casualties in keeping
the North Atlantic sea-lanes open for the food and weaponry that were
Britain’s lifeline. Andrews apparently never heard of the Murmansk Run
which funneled millions of dollars worth of planes, tanks an other supplies
to the Soviets. The Canadian navy and Merchant Marine played a
major part, under horrific winter conditions, in that successful campaign.
But then a History/Political Science Specialist like Andrews should know
ll these facts. Shouldn’t he?
