Black School Fiasco
Dear Editor:
Re: Black Oriented Schools – How to hurt all Canadians
Just a word of thanks for your excellent article pouring cold water on the idea of black schools. You are absolutely right. Another point: the United States has a large number of “traditionally black colleges.” These are colleges for black students. Some are excellent. But a great many are a joke.
They accept black teenagers - financed by the taxpayers - who are far from ready for a college level education. I am talking about students who cannot write a sentence and in some cases cannot read with any fluency. They move through these institutions and are graduated four years later knowing very little more than they did when they arrived.
Back in the real world, employers know that the colleges are useless and the degrees they issue not worth anything. As a result, the graduates can’t get a decent job. Of course, they blame racism. It’s a wicked circle. Canada is a great country with a great educational system. But students have to work hard to succeed. There are no short cuts. You get out of it what you put in - and nothing more.
It takes effort. Again, three cheers for pulling the plug on the black schools fiasco. With best wishes from a regular reader of your CFP column.
