Are conservatives not aware that McCain is a liberal?

Your piece was right on the mark. I very much agree with your “straight talk,” so why are the polls showing McCain soaring above Mitt Romney? Are conservatives not aware that McCain is a liberal, statist Republican and not a Reagan conservative as he claims? He’s even weak on the “war on terror,” the one issue where conservatives might have given him a pass.
But how can he be viewed as strong in this area when he has sought to hamstring the President’s ability to interrogate terrorists, when he wishes to close down Guatanamo Bay and move prisoners to Leavenworth, and when he wishes to give terrorist combatants rights to a trial and a defense lawyer?
Why again, when you would think McCain is anathema to conservatives, are the polls showing him ahead of Romney?
