China and Tibet
Dear Editor;
Re “Mayor will discuss Tibet on china trip.” (April 2).
Mayor Miller “can’t get no respect” at home yet he expects china’s leaders to listen to his sage advice on how Toronto wants them to cease their brutal campaign to Chinify Tibet.
China, like all bully nations throughout history, believes it has an inalienable right to invade its weaker neighbor. The western democracies, including Canada, will loudly condemn China’s rape of Tibet, but will do nothing that might hamper their burgeoning trade with China’s billion, increasingly affluent customers. Someone should explain to Miller the difference between municipal politics and Realpolitik.
