A response from Adam Vaughan

Dear Editor,
Re: “Gun-toting Yanks” not welcome in Toronto

As a paper that is quite familiar with stacking adjectives on top of people as a means of attack I’d have thought the qualifiers encased in quotation marks (”gun totin’ Yanks”) would have clearly denoted my intended target… “Gun totin’ Yanks”.

Let’s be clear - regular, law abiding peace lovin’ yanks are now, and have always been, welcome. The more the merrier.

If however, you are an American citizen, and you want to visit Toronto and bring your collection of handguns, the message is clear - leave your guns at home or don’t come.

When I visit the US I repect their laws and customs. I do not expect their country to change it’s laws to accomodate my visit. US citizens have no right to expect Canada to re-fashion our criminal code to accomodate tourists.

Let me make it clear, Americans are welcome, their guns are not.
