The Great Carbon Tax Swindle

Dear Editor;

Why is Carbon Dioxide (CO2), this colourless, odourless, benign gas, being so demonized? If it’s so bad, why do we like the fiz it provides in our carbonated soda drinks? Why do they add CO2 to about 3 times ambient, in greenhouses to increase plant growth by up to 50%? We are now feeding 5 billion more people on earth than we were 100 years ago. CO2 is a huge vital necessity for plant growth.

To put it in perspective, the Earth’s Atmosphere by volume comprises approx. 78% Nitrogen, 21% Oxygen, .9% Argon. The remaining 1/10 of 1 % is made up of ‘Trace gases’. Of these, are the “greenhouse gasses”, of which CO2 is 3/8 of that 1/10 of 1%, or (.038%, 384 parts per million). The human contribution of CO2 is even a much smaller fraction of that and in spite of man’s increases of CO2 and Methane, the global temperature has dropped in the last 10 years.

Methane gas is 220 times less volume than CO2, yet slight increases of it get the Climate Change hysteria crowd agitatingly nervous.

Water vapour .4% of the full atmosphere and typically 1 to 4% near the surface, has an extremely more powerful greenhouse effect than all other gasses or influences combined, other than the sun. One climatologist (Dr. Martin Hertzberg) equated the contributing warming effects of CO2, compared to water vapour as to a few farts in a hurricane. The UN Global Warming ‘computer models’ never properly accounted for water in the atmosphere.

The great green moral crusaders would be taxing water vapour if they thought us nasty inhabitant taxpayers would be that gullible, but CO2 is less understood and easier to mystify. Consequently they are condemning an innocent victim.

So the Carbon Tax eco-saviors want us to believe that some slight increase in these miniscule ‘Trace gasses’ are going to cause the sky to fall, the oceans to rise, hurricanes, pestilence and we are all going to die in a dust storm, unless we pay the Carbon guilt tax (penance) for our sins…. Somehow, the second coming of Jesus Christ makes a lot more viable sense to me.

Pardon me for existing Gordon Campbell and Stefan Dion. Naturally, it’s all man’s fault, and BC and Canada are to blame. And these are the ones who want our vote, to be our leaders so they can prioritize our tax dollars? Like as if a feel good tax is going to alter the global climate! It’s a transfer of wealth, from our pocket to theirs.
