Just off the main lobby of the Intercontinental Hotel, the soft sounds of Jazz can be heard beckoning diners into Azure, the Atrium restaurant and The Cooks latest fine dining experience.
Located at 225 Front Street West at Simcoe, this is a gem of a find. We were warmly greeted by Dennis Potvin, Supervisor at Azure, who made sure we were well taken care of.
The Dan Bodanis Band plays every Thursday, Friday and Saturday between 5:30-10:30. The sounds of "jazz everybody lovesÓ accompanied our dining experience, complimenting the ambiance of the Atrium setting of Azure. These accomplished musicians offered a repertoire of over 300 classic jazz tunes pioneered by great musicians past and present. Requests are warmly welcomed.
Our evening was enhanced by the proficiency of our server Rykhard, whose knowledge of both the menu items and wine pairings was greatly appreciated as he made suggestions of the Chef's creations.
We began with Rodney's fresh oysters, followed by the Chef's soup of the day--a split pea with pancetta.
We tried a few of the Chef's creations for our main course as the choices were varied and many.
The Roast Venison Loin was served with potato mushroom terrine, and vegetables in a grain mustard sauce. This dish was by far our favorite, the venison cooked to perfection.
Next was the Pickerel served with heirloom beets, blue potatoes, and a horseradish butter sauce. The colour and presentation of this dish was spectacular.
Finally, we had the Braised Rabbit served over celery root puree spring vegetables, in an apple cider wine sauce. The special preparation of this dish enhances the flavour while keeping the meat tender and moist.
Chef de Cuisine, Nancy Nolan is to be complimented on her culinary expertise. In both preparing and presenting each dish, she clearly is an expert in her chosen profession.
We rounded off our dining with a selection of 4 cheeses, recommended by our server. Again great choices!
Dinner for two at Azure $150.00 which would include a selection of wine.
Open for Breakfast, lunch and dinner Azure is close and convenient to the theatre, symphony or ballet.
