Hilton Head Island: South Carolina

The Sea Pines

Encompassing salt riddled tidal marshes, low lying sea banks and more than 50 lakes and lagoons, the 5200-acre resort is surrounded by water on three sides and is nestled on a peninsula between the Atlantic Ocean and the Calibogue Sound.

Planned as an eco resort, all buildings and signs are low and cloaked in inconspicuous hues of brown and gray to blend in with their natural surroundings.

Situated at the Southern tip of Hilton Head Island, The Sea Pines Resort has brought fame to the area with its legendary PGA Tournament, the Verizon Heritage.

Ranked the number one course in South Carolina by Golf Magazine, Golf Digest and Golf Week and the number two golf course since 1959 by Golf Magazine, Harbour Town Golf Links offers 18 memorable holes, including the celebrated 18th overlooking Calibogue Sound and candy-striped lighthouse.

What makes it different from the rest:

  • No building at The Sea Pines Resort is higher than the tallest oak or magnolia tree.

  • The resort has as many bikes as cars.

  • The resort has the only ocean-front open-air restaurant on Hilton Head Island.

  • 1300 acres (25 percent) of the resort will never be developed.

  • First eco-planned resort in the world still model after today.
