Why The Rabbi Telling Columbia Students To Leave Is Wrong And The Administration Is Incompetent

Ivy League schools have always been perceived as pretentious and haughty from the outside. Despite this, students and faculty have denied these claims and have never felt the need to address them. However, events over the last several years have caused irreparable damage to the reputation of these institutions. The abhorrent behavior of Harvard, Yale, and now Columbia Universities is undeniable, and their politically "woke" stance has endangered a portion of their student body.

The administrations of each of these so-called “institutions of higher learning,” have turned them into divisive bastions of fascism. These individuals believe that their views are inclusive when, in reality, they are not. These politically correct beliefs may be popular among those on the left, but disregarding reality and moral traditions to indulge in unrealistic fantasies is proving to be both close-minded and dangerous.

What has occurred on the Columbia campus the past few nights is criminal behavior and the administration has been unresponsive. Frankly, criminal negligence may be involved on their part. You cannot stand on the sidelines with your hands in your pockets when loud, open, and obvious antisemitism is taking place. This type of behavior would not be tolerated if the religion under attack was Islam and the reality of that blatant preferential treatment can no longer be swept under the rug.

That said, the wrong response by the students would be to leave, which was encouraged by Rabbi Elie Buechler.

Sunday on WhatsApp Buechler stated:

“The events of the last few days, especially last night, have made it clear that Columbia University’s Public Safety and the NYPD cannot guarantee Jewish students’ safety in the face of extreme antisemitism and anarchy. It deeply pains me to say that I would strongly recommend you return home as soon as possible and remain home until the reality in and around campus has dramatically improved. It is not our job as Jews to ensure our own safety on campus, no one should have to endure this level of hatred, let alone at school.”

Conveniently, the school stated that it would permit students to work online, another response that should never have been made. The bottom line is simple: the school is responsible for protecting ALL of its students. Suggesting that they can work online is surrendering to the troublemakers who are attacking innocent individuals solely because of their beliefs.

Suggesting that the innocent leave or alter their college experience in any way is rewarding the moronic behavior of the agitators. These demonstrations need to be quelled quickly and a clear example needs to be made of these cretins. These are not individuals that you can give even an inch to. They are wrong, and they are the ones who need to suffer the consequences of their actions.

Eric Adams, the left-leaning mayor of New York City, has promised to bring back the police after they detained several protesters who were disrupting campus life last week. In a statement released Sunday evening, Adams said this:

“I am horrified and disgusted with the antisemitism being spewed at and around the Columbia University campus — like the example of a young woman holding a sign with an arrow pointing to Jewish students stating ‘Al-Qasam’s Next Targets,’ or another where a woman is literally yelling ‘We are Hamas,’ or another where groups of students are chanting ‘We don’t want no Zionists here’ — and I condemn this hate speech in the strongest of terms.”

The students who created this chaos need to be expelled. This accomplishes two things, both of which will improve campus life. First, it rids the school of some agitators. Second, it sends a clear message to those who remain that this hatred will not be tolerated… PERIOD
