"Expect the worst, and you’ll never be disappointed." Some people, and especially lots of liberal media pundits, seem to live by that philosophy.
as I look forward to the New Year I believe that a spirit of optimism and hope is appropriate. I personally prefer great expectations instead of cynical pessimism any day. So here are some good things I’m hoping for in 2005.
On the domestic front, I believe that we are going to see the influence of real, true blue conservatives continue to increase as we work overtime to build and strengthen our base nationwide. The fact is, we have better ideas, and as we faithfully articulate and expound those common sense ideas in the public square, more and more americans are going to respond and join our ranks.
as a result, we are going to see some substantive changes in our public policy. For example, traditional family values--including abstinence based sex education and creation science--are going to become more highly visible in our schools and society, both public and private.
Politically, we can hopefully expect two very important breakthroughs in 2005. First, the obstructionists in the Senate who in the past have blocked President Bush’s conservative judicial appointments are finally going to see the handwriting on the wall and bring those nominations to a vote in the full Senate, where they will be confirmed.
Second, we can hopefully expect the Congress to pass a Constitutional amendment defining legally recognized marriage in america as the union of one man and one woman. Once that seminal legislation has been enacted on the Federal level, we can reasonably expect the requisite number of state legislatures to ratify the law rather quickly.
Why will this happen? Because, to paraphrase Ronald Reagan’s famous dictum, it’s not necessary that lawmakers see the light, merely that they feel the heat.
Oh, I know that the aCLU-type Liberals will wail and scream, but the cultural tide has finally turned. The Godless, left-wing agenda reached its high water mark in 2004, with the John Kerry candidacy, and it failed miserably. Now it’s our turn to lead.
Internationally, we need to see some major breakthroughs. Getting a stable government established in Iraq and a modicum of peace restored to the region would be a huge accomplishment. No, that won’t happen overnight, but over time we will prevail.
another high priority of international statesmanship has to be U.S. diplomatic negotiations with both Iran and North Korea leading to their compliance with established nuclear non-proliferation protocols. Expecting the United Nations to accomplish this result is not likely to bear much fruit so american leadership will be crucial to success.
But my number one international goal for 2005 must be the capture of Osama bin Laden and his swift punishment. Whether he is hiding in Iran, as some insist, or in the rugged mountains along the border between afghanistan and Pakistan, this international criminal must be apprehended and brought to justice. There can be no lasting victory in the War on Terror while Osama remains at large, and our military experts must leave no stone unturned until he is found.
are these realistic expectations for the coming year, or just wishful pipe dreams? Time alone will tell.
