Russia Uses Hydraulic Fracturing to Lower Decline Rates at Mature Wells
Russia was the world's second-largest oil producer in 2011, behind Saudi Arabia. Due to its use of multiple stage hydraulic fracturing and horizontal drilling technology, Russia is increasing its oil production in 2012, the Energy Information Administration reports. This is the same technology that is used in the United States to produce record amounts of natural gas and to increase domestic oil production.
